This is the first post of our missionary blog and we have officially been full time missionaries for 2 days now. President Stewart came over to our home on Friday evening to set us apart. It was nice to have Skye and her family join us as well as Grandma Porter, Cindy, Dylan and Wyatt. It was great to be set apart as missionaries. We left the next morning from the airport in Lethbridge and Skye and Aaron and kids drove us out there. We flew to Calgary where Kailey and Caleb and their kids met us at the airport where we had lunch together. It was difficult to say goodbye as it was to say goodbye to all the members of our family. I think we said goodbye to Maurene's family 4 times before we left. They kept coming back! We had a three hour layover in Calgary before we flew to San Francisco. We again had a three hour layover there before flying to Salt Lake City. While we were at the airport in San Francisco waiting for our flight I went down to a glassed in area where you could watch the airplanes take off and land. They had two long parallel runways and they often bring two aircraft in to land on them at the same time. There was another plane landing the same time as us and it was scary seeing another large aircraft so close. When I got to this area I looked out and saw this Irish plane taxiing for take off. I took it as a good sign. Irish airplane taxiing at San Francisco We flew to Salt Lake City and we were surprised to see Amy at the airport to meet us. She had been at the women's broadcast and when it was over came out to the airport to see us before we left. While we were waiting for the shuttle we had a good visit with her. We finally arrived at the MTC in Provo at about 11:00 pm. Our trip had take us a total of 13 hours, more than enough time to drive down here from home. We met a couple from Calgary who are going on a mission who arrived here also yesterday and they got a direct flight from Calgary, took them a total of 2 1/2 hours. I think we got a bad travel agent! Well, the important thing is that we arrived safely. We attended church meetings today and met lots of other couples who are serving doing various things in various parts of the world. It is amazing to me the diversity of callings that couples have. While we were at church this afternoon we met a young Elder from Paisley, Scotland which is right close to Glasgow. He is going to serve his mission in Salt Lake City. It was great to hear him talk. We also met a couple that is leaving soon to go to Poland and neither one of them speak Polish. Some couples are teaching Institute, one in Hawaii, some are working in visitors centres and some at church historical sites. And there were some of course that were going to Salt Lake to do family history. (I think Maurene was a little jealous.) We had supper here, our first meal at the MTC, and it was an experience. The cafeteria is huge and they serve so many people. The food was good and there was lots of it and lots of variety. We are very tired after our long trip yesterday and hope for another good nights sleep. Our room is quiet and comfortable with a view of the Provo Temple.

You both look so happy! We felt a void on Sunday when you were not with us, but we are excited for you and know your Mission will be wonderful for you two and your family.
